The Navy’s five enduring functions are:

Sea control: The ability to operate freely on the world’s oceans, without interference from other nations.

Maritime security: The ability to protect the United States’ maritime interests, such as trade and freedom of navigation.

Sealift: The ability to transport military personnel and equipment around the world.

Some of the Navy’s most famous battles include:
